I filed earlier today and the IRS has accepted my return. When trying to answer the question of if I received the 3rd stimulus I searched my records and could not find it so I answered no. This of course generated a credit and jacked up my return. Late this afternoon when my mail arrived my wife and I received letters from the IRS saying we had been paid the stimulus. We again searched our records and we found the payment at $4200 instead of the $2100 we were looking for. Is it to late to amend my 1040 or do I have to wait to filed an amended return. Turbo tax told me that the IRS did not have their amended section up and running.

The IRS knows how much of the 3rd stimulus was sent to you so they will adjust your tax return accordingly. There is no need to amend your 2021 tax return.
This correction will delay your federal tax refund by several weeks and maybe longer.
Since, the IRS has already accepted your return, you cannot make any changes to it. The option to amend a 2021 tax return will become available later in the tax season.
You should not try to amend your return until the original return has been fully processed and you have received your refund, or your payment has cleared.
Amended returns can be e-filed or it can be printed and filed by mail. It can take the IRS up to 12 weeks or longer to process them. If you are due a larger refund than on your original return, your amended return should only show the difference and you will receive a separate check for it. If you owe money on your amended return, it will show only the new amount owed, you will have to mail a check with the return.
Please visit Instructions to Amend the Tax Return on more information on how to amend your tax return once the option is available.
