For the first time ever, my e-filed Federal tax return has been rejected 😪 I filed using the desktop computer version of TurboTax Premier. The email message from TurboTax states the following:
/Return/ReturnData/IRS1116/ForeignTaxCreditSource/ForeignGrossIncomeAmt - Data in the return is missing or invalid. Please double check your entries.
Most foreign tax information was entered automatically when TurboTax downloaded my 1099-DIV from my mutual fund company. I verified the information that I entered manually. TurboTax found no errors before I filed, and I changed nothing after checking my 2020 foreign tax information and comparing it with my 2019 foreign tax information. So I don't know what to do other than the e-file the identical return again which would also be rejected unless a TurboTax filing bug or IRS return verification bug has been fixed.
I would appreciate any suggestions!

Thanks for this comment. TT appears to have fixed the software bug; new questions added to foreign tax credit query. The result is that QDI eligible foreign source income now added to Foreign Tax worksheet, lines h and l. Thanks to this community for helping me resolve this issue and others along the way!
Our returns were accepted today after similar rejection.

Thanks for confirming TT's software bug and the fact that it's been fixed. As a result, I resubmitted my return only to have it rejected for a different reason: "US_SchA_Charitable_Deduction_Limits_Hold_Rule_Per - Your federal return was rejected due to an issue with the Charitable Deduction Limits on Schedule A." When I attempted to fix this problem in TT, I was presented with 2 options: answer some additional charitable deduction questions and resubmit, or wait until TT is updated on 25 February to fix this bug, and then resubmit. With a significant refund I'd like to receive ASAP, I have tried the first option, and am keeping my fingers crossed.
It does appear that the foreign tax credit bug has been fixed. However, I'm a bit disappointed in TT's quality. My financial situation hasn't changed yet my returns have been rejected for the first time ever. I suppose complex tax law changes and maybe Intuit's more difficult software development situation due to the pandemic might be explanations.
Still not working. I complete the Federal check with no errors then file and comes back with error and filing not completed. Have deleted and re-entered dat, changed individual countries to Various and back, still no luck. Help please.
Same Issue, Rejected both Fed and State as of 2/28/2021. Data was downloaded from broker and TT says everything is OK. Using Turbo Tax at least 25 years filed electronically since Ist time offered without issue.
2nd issue is TT will not print return, doesn't give reason why.
I am also having problems with fed tax being rejected for alleged errors in form 1116. I've doubled checked everything and looked at prior year filings and cannot find a problem. Must be a TT bug which they need to get fixed!
Occasionally, TT appears to hang while trying to print my returns under macOS 11.2.2 (Big Sur). So far, force-quitting TT and trying to print again has eventually been successful, sometimes after waiting longer than usual for printing to occur, so try patience. Also, I've had success printing from the File menu in addition to printing from within TT.
I get the same error - on 3/15/21.
When will that be fixed?
TurboTax is investigating the issue with Form 1116

I am still waiting for Turbotax to fix this problem. I still can't get IRS to accept my return.
I tried to e-file but kept getting rejected, even after error fixed. Turbo Tax advisor said that IRS thinks fraud because tried to e-file too many times. So had to mail paper copy in to IRS. Return was accepted.
Changing the date paid or accrued on Form 1116 to 12/31/2021 instead of "various" fixed this for me.
After 4 attempts at correction of the bogus error on Form 1116 I finally stumbled across this solution and it worked.
Changed the entry from "various" to 12/31/2020 and all is well!!!!
Thank you DJ.
This is the second obscure entry I have had to make on a TurboTax return to achieve acceptance. I am loosing confidence in the quality of the software and e-filing after decades of successful use.
I have the same problem as Alohart did on Feb 21. where do i go in Turbo to start the process to add the information the IRS says is missing?
Yep, replaced the date "Various" with 12/31/2020" and I finally got my return accepted.
Since this happened to you months ago, and I just encountered this TurboTax bug, why didn't they correct it in a more recent update? You know that are monitoring this forum for just this kind of bug report.
