2020 Federal Amended Tax return overpayment

I amended my 2020 Tax return because of a recently received 1099.  Turbo Tax prints an ES form and it indicated that I owed money.  Did I?  How do I find out and if I didn't, how do I get the money back?  Thanks!

Check your amended 2020 tax return to see if there was balance due, which is shown on Line 20, Form 1040-X.  If you did not send in a payment, and there is an amount on that line, then you should send a payment now.  If you have a refund on the amended return then you can ignore any the ES form. This appears to be an estimated tax form, however I can't be sure (1040-ES?).

Use this link to find a mailing address if necessary: Where to send IRS balance due payments

If you actually do have a refund, the IRS will send the money once the amended return is fully processed.

Agreed ... ignore any 1040-ES forms for 2021 since 2021 is over now.

Look at the form 1040X …

Column A should have the figures from the original return, Column C the corrected figures and Column B the differences between the other 2 which needs an explanation on page 2 of the form 1040X.

If you completed it correctly you will see an entry on either line 16 OR 18:

On line 16 should be the amount you paid with your original return. If you paid nothing already then this line should be zero.

On line 18 should be the amount of your original refund you received.  If you have not received your refund yet then you need to wait for it.  If the refund changes from what you expected then this line must reflect that change.

Then you will see your extra refund on line 22 OR  the new balance due you need to pay on line 20.

Thanks for your reply.  I paid the amount to them that was listed on Line 20 plus what was indicated on the Estimated payment form.  So I guess the extra amount will be returned.  Thanks for your help!
