2019 amended return

I filed my taxes Jan 29 2020 they were accepted, they sent my account for review in Feb and notified me that they needed to amend my return and send supporting documents for tax credits i applied for. I amended my return and they received it Apr 8 2020. The status still says hasn't been processed sorry for any inconvenience. When I call they tell me that they have assigned it to an examiner and hasn't began processing yet. Can anyone tell me what's going on? I understand the pandemic has affected processing times but this is a little out of control and they wont give me the answers i need.

2019 amended return

The processing times (and extra examination times) are FAR extended from the norm due to the COVID pandemic.  I personally mailed my return on April 2, 2020.  I was due a nice refund.  Eventually, I did receive the refund, but long after it was expected.  I think it took well over 5 months for my refund to come.  And that was without any examiner in the mix.

As frustrating as it is, you'll have to wait on the IRS to do their job on your return.  At least you do have the info that your return is in the hands of an examiner.  That's progress.  Hope you hear soon!
