In my Schedule B Box 1 from 1099-INT form the 2 banks I entered & a third listed as 'Untitled' with no interest income. I didn't enter this third. How do I get rid of it?

A few users have reported seeing the program generate an untitled 1099-INT, but the reason is not clear.  Perhaps one went to that screen but didn't actually finishing a 1099-INT.

When you go to the 1099-INT interview again, you should see a 1099-INT Summary screen.  Is the untitled 1099-INT listed there with the other 2 banks?  If so, there should be a delete button.    But it may not show up there.

So if it doesn't show up there, or if it refuses to be deleted that way, here are some things to do.

  • With your return open, click in the left menu column on TAX TOOLS, then TOOLS.
  • In the Tools window, choose "Delete a form."
  • Find the untitled 1099-INT.  It will probably say something like "Schedule B -  Form 1099-INT (untitled.)."
  • Delete that form, and then see if the 1099-INT (untitled) is gone.
  • If you continue to get the error, then go back to "Delete a form" and delete the entire Schedule B which will delete all of its subforms.   That unfortunately means re-entering your other Schedule B items (interest/dividends, etc. on 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-OID, interest from a K-1, etc).

NOTE:  It's also possible that in "Delete a form" that you may not see a listing for the "Schedule B- Form 1099-INT (untitled.)"  In that case you can delete the actual Schedule B to reset it.  That will remove Schedule B and all it's subforms.  You will then have to re-enter all the Schedule B entries again (1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-OID, interest from a K-1, etc.).

No need to delete schedule B. Simply go to Forms, Schedule B. Double click "untitled". Fill in anything into the popup box. This will generate the 1099-INT form. Fill in blanks needed to make form work. Then you can delete the form, using the delete form button.

It's not a one-size-fits-all.   The answer above is mainly for Online TurboTax, which is what the threadowner is using, which does not have Forms Mode.   Perhaps you are using the desktop (CD/download) version.

Some people, at least in Online TurboTax where there is no Forms Mode, do have to delete Schedule B if the 1099-INT (untitled) persists after trying the first 2 methods.   They won't know until they try the 2 simpler methods first.  That's why I mentioned deleting Schedule B as the third alternative since there is no way to directly edit forms in Online TurboTax.

If you're using desktop TurboTax, your mileage may vary since you have more options to clean it up.

@johna3308 Your answer works perfectly for the CD version of TurboTax 2018!  Much better solution than deleting the entire Sch. B and starting again from scratch, which was my only other option.  Thanks!

I entered zeros for the two untitled ones and that made them disappear.

I updated the untitled entry and was able to delete it.  Microsoft version of Desktop TurboTax.
