Maryland Other State Information double-taxed income different between W-2 and TurboTax calculation. Which number do I use, W-2 or TurboTax calculation?

Filing as non-resident in Alabama and getting a return. Filing as a resident in Maryland.

On my Maryland Other State Information section for a credit for my Alabama taxes, the number automatically input by TurboTax is the calculated amount for Alabama based on the return I am getting, not the amount on my W-2. The amount withheld on my W-2 is greater than the amount TurboTax automatically synced and appears to be the the net taxes paid to Alabama (after doing the total withheld - return amount).

Which number am I supposed to use, W-2 or the TurboTax calculated amount?

Thanks!

Definitely the TurboTax calculated amount, and not the amount from your W-2.  The tax withheld ds not the amount for which you take a credit because, after you calculated the nonresident return, you are getting back some of that withholding.  You can't take a credit in MD for tax you get back from AL.

That is what I was thinking, but I wanted to be sure. Thank you!
