I don’t see a search bar on my app to search for the 1098T form. Please help! Thank you!

Sign into your return and click Federal on the left side-bar

Click the search icon (Magnifying glass) which is located at the top right corner of the screen

Type what you are looking for, in this instance you may be looking for the education section to report the 1098-T

When the "Jump to ..." link comes up, click on that.

Please see screen shots below:

Anytime I click on the MagnifyGlass I only get to ask questions to a support person with chat.  But it’s generic answers.  I need to file for selling a second home and there is no way for me to get to a place to file it.  When I click on federal and then click on the MagnifyGlass glass , I only get support help.  No bar comes up to request a form of jump to.

If you click on Search at the top of the screen, the Search box will open.  Then you type in what you want to search.  If the search key word is correct, there will be a Jump to... link.  You will need the Premier online edition to report the second home sale.

To enter an investment sale other than from a brokerage account (1099-B), follow the steps below.

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Under Investment Income
  • On Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other, click the start or update button

Or enter investment sales in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to investment sales

On the next screen, click Yes

On the next screen, click No

On the next screen, choose Second home and continue with the section until it completes.

Whenever I click search the page redirects. How can I enter a 1099-misc form if the search function is broken? This is pretty annoying.

Let's try a different way to enter your 1099-Misc. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Log into TurboTax and click on any topic to continue
  2. Click on Federal from the menu on the left-hand side
  3. Click on Wages & Income at the top of the screen
  4. Scroll down to Other Common Income and click "Show More"
  5. Click on Start or Revisit next to Form 1099-MISC and then select Yes
  6. Enter the information from your 1099-Misc

Your solution does not work. TurboTax 2018 had a box 14 drop down code "IC", namely "IC-Section 199A REIT dividends", and after answering the subsequent questions the QBI deduction was carried to the 1040. The same selection does not exist for TurboTax 2019, the selection is "I - section 199A information" and answering the following questions does not carry the REIT value entered to form 8995 or to the QBI 1040 deduction. The change made in TurboTax 2019 has new questions; e.g. "Name and Employer ID for the Business" and "We need some information about your 199A income and loss" where the first option for REIT dividends is filled in. Answering these new questions does not carry the REIT value to form 8995. It appears the software is no longer accounting for the IRS pass through of section 199A REIT dividends allowed for Trusts, or perhaps the regulations have changed, but I can't find a change reported.

The issue with REIT 199A dividends reported on a trust Form 1041 Schedule K-1 is being worked on.  I will update you when the issue has been resolved.

The issue is that the REIT net dividends in section D-2, Line I 3 of the trust K-1 don't "flow" to the Line 9 of the QBI Ded Summary.

I believe updates to TurboTax since 3/10/2020 will resolve your issue with REIT/Section 199A dividends reported to you on your trust Form 1041 K-1.

TurboTax Online will be updated when you sign in.  If you are using TurboTax Download/CD, check for updates (menu at top, Online>>Check for Updates).
