Unfortunately, you will have to pay for the services again because you purchased the online version of TurboTax Premier.  If you purchased the CD/Download version of TurboTax Premier you would have been able to e-file up to 5 federal returns.

Yes. Will be looking elsewhere next year. Was not stated anywhere that you had to purchase the CD/Download version. Please, please, please make that clear for others so that they do not make the same mistake!!!!!

AGREE...AS A LONG TERM TURBOTAX USER...I AM VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE WAY THE PRODUCT OFFERING IS PRICED!!!

Yep same thing happened to me, when deciding, the process was very confusing so I selected the online version, not knowing I had to purchase again to file my spouses return since we file married filing separate. I will not be back to Turbo Tax next year.  Been using their product for 20 years, and this year, the process was all about advertisement, upsell and deception.

If you paid for the Online version you can ask them for the Download Desktop program.

May I ask why you are filing separate returns? Sometimes people don't realize the differences between filing Joint and MFS.

Unless you have a specific reason to file separate returns,
It is usually better to file Joint. Joint has the lowest tax rates and the highest Standard Deduction. And if you are in a Community Property state MFS gets tricky to figure out. Here's some things to consider about filing separately……

In the first place you each have to file a separate return, so that's two returns. And if you are using the Online version that means using 2 accounts and paying the fees twice.

Many people think they come out better when filing Married Filing Separate but they are probably doing it wrong. If one person itemizes deductions then the other one must itemize too, even if it's less than the standard deduction, even if it is ZERO!

And there are several credits you can't take when filing separately, like the
EITC Earned Income Tax Credit
Child Care Credit
Educational Deductions and Credits

And contributions to IRA and ROTH IRA are limited when you file MFS.

Also if you file Married Filing Separately up to 85`% of your Social Security becomes taxable right away even with zero other income.

visit the IRS at https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free

to find truly free filing.

Your daughter probably qualifies for this.

If you choose TurboTax, you must create a new account.
