I'm sorry for your loss. You'll want to start the return as if your parent was still alive. During the questionnaire, there will be a spot for you to check "This person passed away before filing the tax return". You'll want to check that option. Then file the rest of the return normally. When you print out the documents to file them, on the signature line it will say "Deceased".

If taxpayer is deceased, it would be good to delete the Self Prepared  comment in the Paid Preparer Use Only section.  Is there any way to do this if I am the executor preparing the final return for a deceased parent?

The return is self prepared and that cannot be changed ... you are the signer of the return have prepared it.  As you follow the interview you will come to form 1310 which gives you permission to sign the return ... sign your name on the paper return you will need to mail in with POA or other title afterwards.

I have completed the return for my decease mother and ready to file but it is asking for drivers license info.  Are they looking for my license (person filing for her) or hers?

You should use your mother's driver's license information.

How do i file for a deceased parent

My mother passed in Feb 2020 and we filed for her as a deceased person but we mistakenly filed her date of death as Feb 2019.  Do we need to correct that with the IRS?  We had to file a copy of the death certificate and her return was accepted.  We did finally get her refund, but it took a long time.  We need to file 2020 taxes for her.  Is it ok that we report the correct date of death?

Yes, you should file a 2020 tax return and indicate the correct date of death.  Be advised as well that you are eligible to claim any missed stimulus payments on that 2020 tax return for her since her date of death was after January 1, 2020.
