Csaddler I am hearing you-- besides buying TTax this year and encountering the problems with it, I then decided to what the heck just buy H&R Block tax software...
I tried the manual update, it did nothing to solve the problem. Only by telling Windows 10 to run TTax in Admin mode did TTax finally work (do updates).
