How do I figure my tax rate for 2016? Do I use my gross income figure or adjusted gross income figure?

You should use your "taxable income" figure.  This can be found on the following lines depending on which form you used for 2016.  This will allow you to see what tax bracket you were in.

  • Form 1040, Line 43
  • Form 1040A, Line 27
  • Form 1040EZ. Line 6
