Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

Only option to file shown in Turbotax is "File by Mail". The only difference from last year is filing a 1099-R. Rest I have e-filed before. Any suggestions?

Was the distribution shown on the Form 1099-R any early withdrawal subject to the 10% early withdrawal penalty?

You are only able to select "File by Mail" because the Internal Revenue Service(IRS) doesn't open the tax filing season until January 29, 2018. You will be able to change to e-file once the filing season is open.

Once you login to TurboTax, follow these steps to change your filing options to E-file:

1. Click "Take me to my return"

2. Click File (in black on the left of your screen)

3. Go to Step 3 (make sure you have completed steps 1 and 2 first)

4. Click "I'd like to change filing methods"

5. Select E-file and then click the Save button

6. Click the Continue button and follow the prompts to E-file your tax return.
