Yet to recieve refund

My father had filed his taxes for 2020 incorrectly. He made a mistake with my mother's death on the form. The IRS then charged him more taxes. (I had him use Turbotax last year because of this mistake. ) He amended the taxes to deal with the issue. He received a letter last year saying that they accepted his correction and that they owed him around 1300 for a refund. The letter said he should receive the check shortly. He never did. I did hear on NPR someone talking about there being a huge number of people that are in the same boat, waiting for their refund. My question is whether there is a way to enter this on this year's filing? Or does he just submit this year's filing and see if they IRS deals with the refund when they review it? He owes money this year so he will be submitting a payment with the filing. Also, I made sure to supply his bank information. Last year he got a small refund via check. I figure the bank information would make the problem quicker to resolve, though the IRS should have that because he got his Covid relief that way.  Thanks

Yet to recieve refund

Each tax return and each tax year is separate.  There is no place on a 2022 tax return to say you are still waiting for a refund from a previous year.   Dad should just file a correct return for 2022.

Your post is a bit confusing. You say your father filed incorrectly for 2020.  What happened with his 2021 return?  Was that also incorrect?     What tax year did he amend?   Amended returns take a vey long time to be processed.   It is not uncommon for an amended return to take six to nine months or even longer to be processed by the IRS.   Have you checked on the amended return site:

Another thing to try if it has been even longer than you indicated.....the Taxpayer Advocate.

TAX ADVOCATE

At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your area's IRS Taxpayer Advocate.

Yet to recieve refund

same boat. amended 2020 tax return. approved resulted in a refund

check never received.

IRS owes me $49 plus interest.

Yet to recieve refund

He amended the 2020 year tax form. His 2021 filing was done with Turbotax and he received a check in the mail for his refund. The letter received from the IRS was in regard to the 2020 filing. They approved his amendment to that form and stated that they owed him 1300 that he would receive in a couple of weeks. He never received it. I will just submit the current filing and see what comes of it. I didn't think there was a way to deal with a yet to be received refund but I am not an expert. Thanks for the links to those resources. I know a friend of mine had used a tax advocate before with good results. Hopefully, it is just because there is a backlog that there is a hold up and it may be adjusted once they pull up his file. The hard part is he is 90, hard of hearing, and lacks technical expertise. I work full time so it is hard to deal with this issue. Thanks again @xmasbaby0 . Much appreciated.
