Question

Will my SSN from 2014 work?

I married an American citizen last year in October 2018. We are filing for taxes jointly but i’m currently waiting for OPT employment to come through. However I have a SSN from a previous OPT in 2014. Can I use that one? The SSN also says ‘DHS Work Authorisation’ only.

Does SSN expire?

We are also filing green card later this year.

THat is not exactly a social security number it is an ITIN and they are restricted.

see

Your ITIN may expire before you file a tax return in 2020. All ITINs not used on a federal tax return at least once in the last three years will expire on December 31, 2019.
