Why was I charged an extra fee?

My return was clearly lower than expected due to another fee that I was unaware of. Had I know, I would have just gotten it mailed to me.

Did you have the fees deducted from your refund? Yes there is an Extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge (45 in California). You can pay with a credit card to avoid the extra charge.

How much is missing? The fees are the same if you efile or print and mail your return. The fees are the same if you get Direct Deposit or a check in the mail.
