Why is my tax return lower?

Hi-

Just wondering why I only received $500+ for my taxes, but last year i received $2000. Can someone please further assist?

Difficult to say without looking at your return, but did you lose any credits or did you get advance child tax credit payments? Advance payments received lowers the credit on your tax return. 

Most credits are listed after line 17 on your 1040. Compare your 1040 from this year to last year's and specifically look at those lines to see if your credits changed.
