If you received refundable credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit,  and/or the Additional Child Tax Credit, or the American Opportunity educational credit, your refund may be greater than the amount of tax you paid in 2017.

Just in case, you should review your return, checking your data entries starting with your W-2, looking for errors such as misplaced decimals or extra zeros
