Probably because you have a Schedule 1099-NEC to report, which is used to report Self-Employment income.
I don't have that. It was the free version until I went to file tonight and it switched it. I can't even clear and start over.
At this juncture, if you have a refund coming, you can wait to select this link to Product Support to see if they can provide you with a downgrade code. if you owe, taxes, then you better file by tonight.
if you have a refund coming and you file late, your refund will not be affected by the late filing.
I do owe and that was my concern. I paid for self employed because I had no choice. I HAD to file tonight.
Still call after this week to see if you can receive a refund. Are you sure you didn't report a 1099-NEC or 1099-MiSC? I can't imagine why Turbo Tax would switch you to a Self-Employment version at random unless you reported something that was construed as self-employed income.
