Why, for the first time, won't desktop 2016 import data from prior year desktop return?

Each year I use TT Premier desktop (Windows). I file in paper, not online. Before now TT has found and imported data from my prior year's return on my hard drive. This year it won't. It is the same computer;. All the TT directories from past years are there, unchanged. There are no *.tax20xx files anywhere in any of these TT directory. If this is a change in how TT works, it is bad enough to put me off the program for good.
