You are too late to e-file a tax return.  E-filing closed after October 15.   The only way to file your tax return now is to print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

If you are getting a refund or do not owe tax due, there is no penalty for filing late.  But if you owe tax to the IRS or state, you are subject to late filing penalties and interest for which the IRS/state will bill you after they receive your tax return and your payment of the amount due as shown on the tax form.

You must have answered something incorrectly in MY INFO if the correct state is not indicated.   You will need to take a close look at how you answered questions in MY INFO about what state(s) you lived and received income from.

This has been an issue since March but they JUST emailed me saying it wasn't filed when I did file and complete it

There was a mass marketing email that went out to users of TurboTax.   If you know that you filed and the return was accepted and processed, then ignore the email.

Did you e-file?  Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

If the IRS accepted it, what does it say here?

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Or does your account say “Ready to Mail?”

Note:  If it says “Ready to Mail” or “Printed” that means YOU have to mail it yourself.  TurboTax does not mail your tax return for you.
