Why does it say I have registered my account when I try to delete and start over

In TurboTax Online, you can erase your return and start from scratch as long as you haven't submitted payment, deducted the TurboTax fee from your refund, or registered.

"Registered" means when you fill out your name, credit card and demographics (where you live) is entered or updated.  That is what it means to be "registered".

  1. If you haven't already done so, sign in at TurboTax.com and select the blue Take me to my return button.
  2. On the welcome back screen, in the left-side menu, select Tax Tools, and then select Clear & Start Over (click or tap the 3 lines in the upper-left corner if you don't see this menu).
  3. Answer Yes in the pop-up to confirm.
  4. After your entries have been cleared out, we'll prompt you to select a TurboTax product so you can start over from the very beginning.
  1. If you're signed in under last year's login, we'll automatically transfer last year's info over if you select the PLUS upgrade, Deluxe, Premier, or Self-Employed. Federal Free Edition (without PLUS) does not include the year-over-year transfer feature.

If you can't Clear & Start Over after you've registered, and it's convenient, consider opening a new account under a new username. Up to 5 accounts can be tied to the same email address.

Here’s how:

  1. Sign out of TurboTax Online.
  2. Select the TurboTax Online product you want to use for the second return and proceed.
  3. On the Create your account screen, set up a new login for the second return.
  • You can reuse your email address if you want to receive e-file notifications for the second return.
  • Up to 5 accounts can be tied to the same email address.
  • After you've created the new account, you can start working on the second return.

Why does it say I have registered my account when I try to delete and start over

Just want to note that this behavior is very confusing. It seems I "registered" TurboTax online free product when I tried to print my forms, but I didn't realize I won't be able to edit it after that and I didn't get any warning about it. Now when it turned out I need to update original forms (not fill in an amend), I'm not able to, also not able to clear and start over.

Well, it's nice we at least have a workaround (opening a new account), but it seems ugly. What is the reasoning behind this behavior? Please, consider restricting the number of "starting over" attempts instead, or even charge subsequent attempts, or whatever, as now I have to abandon my current account which I won't be able to use in future which makes me upset.
