Why do I need TurboTax Deluxe to file a 1040 when the free edition states I can file 1040 with child credits for free?

Why do I need TurboTax Deluxe to file a 1040 when the free edition states I can file 1040 with child credits for free?

You may need to use the TurboTax Free File Program, if your income is low enough. It's geared towards lower-income filers, regardless of tax return complexity, and is only offered through the IRS Free File Alliance (FFA) program. No upgrades are available.
