Why didn't my Withholding cover my Taxes due? I have maximum withholding on my W-4. My income rose substantially, but shouldn't the withholding rose to cover it?

You may need to submit a new W-4 to your employer to increase the withholdings.

And.....many tax laws changed for 2022.   The refundable credits like child tax credit and earned income credit are less; the childcare credit is non-refundable and is less, etc. etc..  There was no recovery rebate credit for 2022.   Many people  who received nice refunds for 2021 have lower refunds or owe for 2022.

And of course, always check your own data entries, looking for errors such as misplaced decimals or extra zeros.

Print out 2021  and 2022  and compare them side by side to see what is different.

this may be due to the method your employer is using to withhold taxes.  also, issues can arise if your paychecks vary from pay period to pay period.
