Why can't I file using my new legal name?

I changed my first name this year and the program won't validate my identity. I've tried running it through with my former name and everything works then, but it is inaccurate since my name is changed with the Social Security Administration and all my proof of ID documents reflect the change.

This means that the IRS name and SSN database has not yet updated with the Social Security Administration database.

You can safely file with your former name and the IRS will identify you with your SSN.
