Why can't I e-file my NYS return? It says NYS requires e-filing but TurboTax prevents me from selecting this option. I've filed my federal and other state returns.
TurboTax states I 'may have a tax situation' that prevents me from e-filing but does not say what this is. It seems others have the same issue but replied to a 3 year old (answered but different) question instead of posing a new question.

In some situations New York wants to see a paper copy of your return, for example to check withholding or other state taxes..
The instructions for Form IT-201 state (on pg. 4) : "You must e-file if your software allows you to e-file your return."
If TurboTax is telling you to mail in your New York return, you can do so with peace of mind.
