No, unfortunately the IRS does not allow you to claim your son's education expenses/tuition if you are not claiming him as a dependent on your tax return.

Whoever claims his exemption (dependency), whether that be the other parent, the student himself, or anybody else, may count what you paid, in claiming the tuition credit for himself.
