The Free Edition only handles simple 1040-A and 1040-EZ returns, with standard deductions. If you are filing one of those, you can go here for the Federal Free Edition https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/free-edition.jsp

If you have deductions such as home-related deductions, education expenses, medical bills, or other itemized deductions, you will need TurboTax Deluxe or higher for those things. So if you need to itemize deductions on Schedule A and file a 1040 long form, you will need Deluxe or higher for that.
