I have a dependent adult child who is on our health policy, purchased through Covered California. According to the directions in TurboTax and I quote:
"If you have a dependent that is required to file a tax return and is filing a separate tax return, you'll need to include their income in your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI)."
So, I think, great, because the child didn't earn enough and is not REQUIRED to file. So I don't have to include their income, right?
BUT, they want to file anyway to get their withholding back. SO, do I have to include her MAGI or not?

If the child only files to get back tax withheld you don’t have to add that person’s income. Note that the language you quoted is “required “ to file a return.
