Even though it shows up as income on the first page,if you have capital gains or qualified dividends the tax is not taken from the tax table but is calculated separately from schedule D. The tax will be calculated on the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet. It does not get filed with your return.
In the online version you need to save your return as a pdf file and include all worksheets to see it.
For the Desktop version you can switch to Forms Mode and open the worksheet to see it. Click Forms in the upper right (upper left for Mac) and look through the list and open the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet. And you will need to use this IRS worksheet on page 15.
VolvoGirl, Thanks for the info.
For 2023 I did the online TurboTax version and when I saved a PD of my final return, I did not include all supporting worksheets.
So can I ask for the 2023 Form 1040 Line 16 Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet now?
Is there some other way to get it?
Did you save the pdf earlier? Try saving it again now. Now that 2023 Online has closed the pdf should have all the worksheets.
Thanks for the recommendation.
I'll try a re-download of my 2023 tax return.
The 2023 return PDF re-download had only the files forms and not the supporting calcs.
I'll call TurboTax on Monday and get their help.
Thanks for your help.
From my Dec 16, 2024 call TurboTax tax expert.
Log into TurboTax Online and then do the following step:
I put a request into TurboTax to change it so that so that it would be easier to figure out how to print the supporting, non-filed tax calcs and schedules from a prior year's return.
