Information for Form 8888 is entered under the ''File'' menu on the left-hand menu.  Go through the steps and enter your Direct Deposit information when prompted.  You will be given the option to have your refund deposited into more than one account or to purchase US savings bonds after you select the 'direct deposit' option.

this makes no sense at all. under the "file" menu I can create a new tax return, open a tax return. nowhere does it show me the opportunity to open individual files?

For TurboTax desktop, you do not click on the File tab at the top of the screen next to Edit, you choose File all the way to the right of Review, after the Federal & State menus. From there, you will be able to split your deposit with Form 8888.

Hi, as of 7/3/20, there does not appear to be a form 8888 available in Turbotax premier.   Following your directions, the choices for the refund are direct deposit to a couple of different accounts of mine, or add a new one, or get a mailed check.   nothing about splitting the refund.  ALSO, nothing about getting i-Bonds, which is my preference.   ALSO, when I look in the FORMS view list, no 8888 !!

whoops, I didn't read your answer carefully enough....   as you said, you have to start the process before you get the option to split--  thanks

TurboTax will create Form 8888 if you tell TurboTax that you want to buy U.S. Savings Bonds with your refund.

  1. Click on File in the left column
  2. In Step 2, Your refund info, select Other refund options
  3. On How would you like to receive your federal refund? select See other options
  4. Select Split my refund between multiple bank accounts or U.S. savings bonds
