To enter your IP PIN in TurboTax:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account
  2. Open your return
  3. In the search bar type IP pin
  4. Select the Jump to ip pin link
  5. On the Identity Protection PIN screen, answer Yes
  6. Enter all relevant information

Your IP PIN validates you as your Social Security number's true owner, and prevents future tax fraud.

Please see the TurboTax Help article How do I add or remove my 6-digit IP PIN? for further guidance.

A 6-digit PIN is an Identity Protection PIN (also called an IP PIN) that the IRS provides for victims of ID theft whose cases they are working with. That is entered in a completely different program area--not in the efile section.

The regular Efiling PIN is 5 digits and will be encountered during the process of efiling.

If you have a 6-digit IP PIN to enter, here's where to enter it.

·         FEDERAL TAXES tab.

·         Then sub tab "Other Tax Situations."

·         Scroll down to "Other Return Info".

·         Find subtopic "Identity Protection PIN", and click START.

Where do i enter ip pin number

Where do you enter the IP Pin on the TurboTax 2022 desktop application? All the instructions for adding the IP Pin only show how to update it within the online version.

I had mistakenly used last year's PIN when e-filing on the desktop app. It was rejected, but there is no option to change the PIN within the desktop app before re-filing.

To enter, edit or delete a 6 digit IP PIN

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Other Tax Situations
Scroll down to Other Return Info
On Identity Protection PIN, click the start button

It's very convoluted and hard to find where to enter the IP PIN.

You go to Federal Taxes

Then Other Tax Situations

Then Other Return Info

Then click on "update" next to the Identity Protection PIN label.

I know. Intuit really dropped the ball on the user interface design.

This solution does not work.  There is no such link on the page you specified.

Where do i enter ip pin number

Here are two ways to navigate to the section to enter the 6 digit IP PIN:

  1. Log in and open your return ("Take me to my return")
  2. Once the return is open, then go to the Federal Taxes tab.
  3. Subtab Other Tax Situations
  4. Scroll down to Other Return Info.
  5. Choose Identity Protection PIN and Start (or Revisit.)
  6. Next screen asks:  "Did you or any of your dependents get an IP PIN from the IRS for this year's taxes?"

Or another way:

  1. Open your return if not already open.  ("Take me to my return.")
  2. Once the return is open, click at the top on MY ACCOUNT, then choose TOOLS.
  3. In the Tools window choose TOPIC SEARCH.
  4. Enter IP PIN without quotes.
  5. In the selection list highlight IP PIN and click GO.
  6. Next screen asks:  "Did you or any of your dependents get an IP PIN from the IRS for this year's taxes?"

Thank you--that solution works.  Unfortunately my original reply to one of the suggestions ended up in the wrong place in the thread, causing some potential confusion.
