Are you sure it's not asking you to verify your email address by sending a code to your email address?

When you go to your email to pick up the 6-digit code, be sure to leave the window open that asks for the code. If you close it, that resets everything, and the code will be seen as invalid. If you need to use a different email address to receive the code, the FAQ above tells you how.
