When I download my 2017 taxe return why is it 117 pages

It sounds like that is the PDF that has your tax return plus all the extra government worksheets and TurboTax worksheets.  The worksheets are for calculations and info for your records and most are not enclosed when you file a return.

There are a few worksheets, such as the "Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet", that are filed with the return.   Forms for the actual filed return usually have an attachment sequence number in the top right corner.

If you need to print a copy of your return, your PDF viewer should allow you to select the few pages to print that comprise your actual return.  You don't have to print all those extra worksheets.
