What if wife is on disability ?

If your wife receives Social Security disability benefits (Form SSA-1099), you'll need to report these benefits on your tax return.

Note: It is generally better for a married couple to file a joint tax return, and that is particularly true for Social Security benefits. On a joint tax return, Social Security benefits may be partly taxable, depending on the other income on the return. On a married filing separately return, the Social Security benefits may be partly taxable regardless of the other income reported on the return.

Please see the FAQs below for more information, including instructions for entering Social Security benefits in TurboTax.
