What if I lost my job and have been unemployed since the end of last January? What occupation/job title should I list? "Unemployed" or my previous title when I had a job?

You can enter Unemployed since that is you status as of the time you are filing your return. There really is no IRS guidance on what to enter for Occupation on the tax form.
