Your return will still be processed (unlike if you electronically filed where your return will be rejected without the IP Pin). But, it will delay the processing of your return because the IRS is going to be extra careful processing your return and they are going to cross check to make sure its really you. If they have any reason to suspect it may not be you, then you will likely get a letter asking you to verify your identity. So, be prepared for delays in receiving your refund.

If you decide to wait for the PIN or you receive the PIN after posting this, follow these instructions to add the IP Pin to your return so you can e-file -
You will enter it in the Other Tax Situations section of TurboTax.
- Log back into your account
- Click either Take Me to My return or you may see an option to Fix your rejected return
- Select Federal Taxes
- Then, select the subtab of Other Tax Situations
- Scroll down to the Other Return Info section
- Click start next to Identity Protection Pin
You can also use the search box to get to this section. Click the search icon in the upper right corner (magnifying glass) and enter "IP Pin" in the search box and click the "jump to IP Pin" link that appears in the search results. This will take you directly to the appropriate section.
