It means you need to return to the beginning of the program and go back through to the screen showing your occupation and make it shorter.  Abbreviate the words or delete some of the words.  Your occupation entry here has no impact on your return, it's just used sometimes when the IRS does general surveys of tax return data, such as trying to see how many filers work in an industry.

Can I just say in the future, if there's a drop down selection option it should limit the characters appropriately within the program so this does not happen when it auto transfers.

exactly , how are we given a drop down where we make a selection and that selection is too long. why would you put it in the program then.

If you did not have Marketplace health insurance (Affordable Care Act), then perhaps you entered something that made TurboTax think that you had such a plan.

To start over on health care, please do:

*** Desktop***

1. go to View (at the top), choose Forms, and select the desired form or worksheet (Healthcare Wks). Note the Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen.

*** Online ***

1. go to Tax Tools (on the left), and navigate to Tools->Delete a form

2. delete any healthcare worksheets (Healthcare Wks)

Let us know if this does not work for you.

When you say return to the beginning of the program do you mean at the beginning of your state or federal tax return?

You should go back and select:

  • Personal Info, or My Info
  • This will display your personal Data
  • Edit the record that has your name
  • Scroll through the questions until you come to your occupation
  • Abbreviate  it t fit into the box.

This will not impact your tax return.  The IRS uses it as a data source to determine statistics related to job categories.
