Assuming you are running OSX 10.13 then:

That is a incompatibility with Mac OSX 10.13 that did not exist when TurboTax 2016 was released so it will not be fixed. It has to do with the way OSX 10.13 handles the instructions to open the screen that Apple changed.

The workaround, if you want direct deposit or debt is to not press any button, but to switch to the forms mode, and on the Info Wks part V, manually check direct deposit or direct debt box, fill in the bank routing and account number and return to the interview - the screen will now be opened with the bank information.

If you want a mailed check, then that is the default. Again switch to the forms mode to be sure then both direct deposit and debt boxes are marked no.

Use the File -> Print -> Print for filing and print, sign and mail the return. There is no need to return to the interview since the next screen when you want a check mailed is an option to add "Audit defense for $59.99) and then to print for filing.

Are you using desktop software (CD/download) for a MAC?    What tax year are you trying to prepare?  Is it 2016 or prior year, by any chance?

Yes, that was the desktop software for a Mac which I just purchased yesterday for 69.99. It is for 2016 tax. So I chose getting refund by mail when it’s asked.

When you asked your original question I believe you were asking from Mac OS 10.13.  Now it looks like you used a phone or portable device to post your latest comment.

But you are using OS 10.13, correct?

In any case, 2016 software was written prior to Mac OS 10.13.   There is a known issue with the crash when answering "How do you want your refund?"   It is unlikely to be updated by TurboTax since it is an old software year and was engineered prior to OS 10.13.

The workaround is enter the info on how you want your Fed refund in FORMS MODE on the Federal Information Worksheet, Part V.   To get to that worksheet, in the left column forms list it will simply show as "Info Wks."

It's still possible to get a 2016 Federal refund by direct deposit, if you wish.   The 2016 return cannot be efiled, however.  It has to be printed, signed, and mailed.

@ macuser_22 is familiar with this issue and how to use the worksheet workaround.  Macuser_22, are you able to review this thread when you are next in the forum?    Thanks!
