We got married in Aug this year and are filing Married Filing Jointly. Is the standard deduction 29,200 for the entire year or part?

Are we claiming the standard deduction of 29,200 for the entire year?

The whole year. It’s based on your marital status on December 31.

The Standard Deduction is for the entire year.  When you got married does not change the amount of your standard deduction when filing as Married Filing Jointly as long as you were legally married during 2024.

@81rxv1te  agreeing with my colleagues  @Bsch4477  and @DoninGA , just wanted to point out that this is valid  only  for  the case  that  both spouses are  US persons  ( citizen/ GreenCard / Resident for Tax purposes ) for the whole calendar   year.
