Waiting on my return after 4 months

Hello Tom John,

Thank you for reaching out to us with your tax questions.

I am sorry to hear that you have been waiting for 4 months for your refund from the IRS.

The possible reason that you have been waiting for several months could be that your return has errors or needs more review and may take a longer time to process. Other possibilities could be the following:

  1. The return is incomplete or is affected by identity theft or fraud.
  2. The return requires a correction to the recovery rebate credit amount or the child tax credit.
  3. The return includes a claim filed for an earned income credit; additional child tax credit, or it includes Form 8379 – Injured Spouse Allocation.
  4. The time it takes the taxpayer’s bank or credit union to post the refund to the taxpayer’s account.

There is not much you can do now except wait until the IRS sends you your refund or a letter if the IRS has questions or requires additional information on your return.

In the meantime, you can enroll in the IRS’ “Where’s My Refund” tool, if you have not already done so. It is a new and improved tool that allows taxpayers to check the status of their refunds for the 2021, 2020, and 2019 years.

Below is the link for the IRS’ “Where’s my refund” tool:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Additionally, you will not receive an email from Intuit regarding when you will receive your refund from the IRS. Once Intuit (TurboTax) assists you with filing your tax return, it is completely out of our control. It is in the IRS’ hands and we have no authority to contact the IRS on your behalf.

Please let me know if you have additional questions. Have a great day!

Regards,

Shirleyh88
