W2 missing Box 3 Social Security Wages.

My W2 is missing Box 3 Social Security Wages. I was told it's because I've reached the $142,800 cap as show on Box 7. Turbo Tax Deluxe keeps telling me to fix this error. My employer payroll already said there will be nothing on Box 3. Can anyone tell me how to get pass this?

You received tips in excess of $142,800?

If so, I would take $1 from box 7 and put it in box 3. I don't believe that this will have any effect on your income tax return, although there is a small chance that you may receive a letter from the IRS asking why your input does not match the copy of the W-2 that they received.

If so, at the point you can reply that this was a workaround to allow you to use industry software to file electronically. Since the IRS really really wants you to e-file, this is not likely to be a problem.
