What boxes?   Depends on what you mean by "affect" the return.   Are you really asking whether the dependent needs to file a return?   If your dependent has tax withheld in box 2  or box 17 they would want to file to seek a refund.   Or if they have over $12,400 in box 1 they have to file.

    Who has to file?

    MY DEPENDENT HAD A JOB

If your dependent has a W-2 for his after-school job, summer job, etc. you do not include the information on your own return. You can still claim your child as a dependent on your own return.  He/she can file his own return for a refund of some of his withheld wages (he won’t get back anything for Social Security or Medicare), but MUST indicate on it that he can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.  (Supervise this closely or prepare it for him!)

If your dependent’s earnings were over $400 and were reported on a 1099Misc or 1099NEC then he must file a return and pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.  You may want to use this version of TT for that:

    I’m asking for my return , I’m a dependent.
    So this is my w-2

    Box 1: $8,452.19

    box 2: 36.17

    box 3: $8,452

    box 4: $524.04

    box 5: $8,452.19

    box 6: $122.56

    box 14 : labeled misc $440

    Box 16: $8,452.19

    box 17: 160.48

if you add that up its 1,200+ , but I’m only getting 180. I also don’t owe the irs and this is my first time filing and my mom already claimed me as her dependent.

It would be helpful to us if you would keep all of your questions on a single thread, as it gives us a history of your prior Q&A's.  Do these all relate to your own return, or are you asking homework questions?

@Galacticgut  You have received several answers---all explaining to you that you do not get back the amounts withheld for Social Security or Medicare.  Sorry to say--your mom is wrong.   The amounts you can get back are the amounts in box 2 or box 17.  That is all.   Nothing else.
