it appears in PDF output for form CA540, even though response to questions asking if have dependents is answered "no"

if it helps you, i can forward screen shots of applicable program windows, but first need to know images cannot be seen by general public (only intuit staff)

You have added a dependent to your Calif return that is not on your federal return. If that is not right then you just have to delete that "phantom" dependent. When the TT/Calif screen asks if you want to add a dependent, select Yes. That tells the program to "go there". Once "there" at that screen there's a button to delete the dependent..
