[Urgent] Mistake on Form 3520 Submitted 2 years ago

I recently found an error on my TIN typed in for my Form 3520 filed 2 years ago (I put my employer's TIN instead of my SSN). I know I am an idiot -- I have not heard anything from the IRS. Do I have to file an amended return?

It's quite possible that the IRS discovered the name and identifying number mismatch when you submitted the form, and has already corrected the issue without notifying you.

However, go ahead and file an amended Form 3520, specifying the tax year you're amending. You don't have to amend your entire Form 1040-series return, but you might want to attach a letter explaining your situation.

See When and Where To File and Item A—Initial Return, Final Return, Amended Return in the Instructions for Form 3520 for guidance.
