Question

UPLOADING FROM VANGUARD

When uploading from Vanguard, I put in the account number and document id number, and get a message from Vanguard that the connection is fine, I can return to TurboTax.  When I return to Turbo Tax and click Continue, I have to go through the same procedure with the numbers.  I am in an endless loop.  How do I get the actual upload into TurboTax?

If you received a "Success" message but your data hasn't appeared in TurboTax, it is likely due to recent browser security updates regarding Local Network Access.

To fix this you need to allow TurboTax to securely retrieve your data through your browser settings:

    1. Locate the View Site Information icon (the "tune" or "lock" icon) on the far left of your address bar, just before the URL.
    2. Find Local Network Access in the dropdown menu.
    3. Toggle the switch to ON.
    4. Refresh the page and attempt your import again.

If permissions aren't the issue, one of the following factors may be at play:

    • Brokerage Delays: While most forms arrive by January 31, many brokerages delay Consolidated 1099s (like the 1099-B) until mid-February due to complex reporting requirements.
    • Availability: Your brokerage must specifically "release" the import file to TurboTax. If it isn’t ready, we recommend checking back.
    • Connection Blocks: Active VPNs or aggressive Anti-Virus software can occasionally block the import feature between your bank and TurboTax. Try disabling them temporarily or switching to a different browser.

This solution did not work, as I do not have the drop down option of "Local Network Access" when I click on the lock option.  However, one person said that when they changed from Chrome to Edge, they were able to upload the data.  I was using Edge, but decided to use Chrome and I was able to upload one of the Vanguard documents, but ran into the same problem as before with the second document (in an endless loop).  I then thought if I download Firefox and tried it, it might work, and it did.  The data in the second document was uploaded.  I don't know whether it would have uploaded a third document but I had all the data I needed and was happy.  But what is the problem?
