Upgrade Deluxe from Federal only to Federal and State

I just bought TurboTax 2024 Deluxe. It used to only have Federal & State together, but what I mistakenly purchased only has Federal. What a bummer! Is there a means to upgrade to Federal & State without having to pay $40 for the state alone? (I bought it from Sams Club online and they only have the download version. I tried to cancel and correct the order, but there was no option. I called to cancel within 20 minutes of the order, and the poor folks who answered the phone 34 minutes later said I was too late to cancel the order. Then a kind supervisor said she would step in and cancel the order, but then couldn't because in the meantime of waiting for her to complete the cancel, we received an email with the code. Now she says there's nothing she can do. Yes, a bit frustrating all around.)

I don't work for TurboTax, but if that happened to me this is what I would do.  TurboTax has a 100% satisfaction guarantee for the desktop product (such as your download from Sam's) regardless of whether it was purchased directly from TurboTax or from an authorized retailer (of which Sam's is one.)    That policy allows one to ask for an unconditional refund within the first 60 days.    There is an online form to ask for the refund at the FAQ below.  There is a place in the form to describe your issue and to attach a file containing an image of your receipt.    Once you are sure you are getting the refund (not sure how long it takes), you can then buy the correct product.

I believe it gives you a case number.   The FAQ also has a link to "Track my request" if you need to check on it later.

I checked today and see this message:

Decision: Approved

 

I'm not sure when the check will be arriving, but I appreciate your suggestion and happy that they approved the refund.
