Unemployment and 1099
While I collected unemployment, I did a small project for a couple of weeks as a 1099. Does that count as self employment or part-time?
Also what is the difference between self employment and independent contractor? Are they the same?

An independent contractor is the same as someone who is "self-employed" as far as your taxes go. You have to pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare if you are self-employed since nothing is being withheld from your pay. Anything over $400 that you received as an independent contractor or self-employed person has to be put on your income tax return. Did you receive a 1099NEC or a 1099Misc?

If I'm considered self employed, am I required to have EIN # separate from my social security #? I believe PA asks for a FIN #. Not sure what that is.

You may receive one in January. Be watching for it---assuming this was for income in 2021.
