Husband was unemployed in 2021 and we didn’t even think to get taxes taken out. We have 3 kids and receiving the child tax credit this fall. How much should I set back that will be owed to the government?

    Hi, @mkkarleskint !

I would strongly suggest you check out our TaxCaster, and enter all your income and other info so you can get a good estimate of how much tax will be due for you when you file.

    Link to the TaxCaster

It is difficult to give a solid answer without seeing the whole picture, so using that tool is your best bet in getting a good estimate of how much you should expect to pay.

    Hello mkkarleskint!

Generally, you would either withhold more or less from your income. To determine how much tax you should withhold, please use the tax tables: it uses income, martial status and number of dependents to calculate the amount.

To determine which is best in your situation, please see the following link to the IRS page regarding unemployment:  https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc418

Scroll down to: How to Pay Taxes for Unemployment Compensation and use the links for Tax Withholding.
