What does someone do if in 2022 they made good wages, and are anticipating needing to pay, though have been disabled due to an accident and lost their job and may or may not have any income in time for taxes to come due.

Thank you for reaching out to Intuit's TurboTax Ask the Experts Event! I am sorry to hear about this situation. What I would recommend is to prepare the taxes for 2022 based on the income earned and determine if there is a tax payment due to the IRS or a refund. If taxes are due to the IRS the tax return should be filed before April 15, 2023 with either a modest payment or no payment. After filing the tax return the taxpayer can reach out to the IRS and work out a payment plan. The IRS is usually very receptive to doing this. There will be interest charged on the amount due but this will allow the taxpayer more time to pay the taxes.
