1) MAC? never heard of an easy way, other than disconnecting your computer from the internet (though, too early to know what the 2024 software allows)

2)  Windows??  Well, you have to startup TTX at least once.....then go up to the top lime menu and select:

 ....Online

.......Updater Preferences

then select either

............Ask me....

or

....................I don't have an internet connection (even if you do)

You can always use "Check for Updates"  at your choosing , any time later from that same "Online" menu dropdown, when you do want them
